Many patients are doing themselves a disservice by using the cane that is supposed to be helping them, in the wrong hand. †You may think that you use the cane in the same hand that you write with, right. †Not always the case. †You may also think that you should use the cane on the same side as your injury. †Not so. †The true and correct way to use a cane is OPPOSITE from where your injury is. †That means if your right knee is hurting, you use the cane in your left hand. †This allows your body to take pressure off the right side where the injury is and place that pressure away from the pain. †Don’t be fooled by TV and movies. †They have been doing it wrong for years!
